Surfing the golden era with Smart Site Safety System

In February, the Development Bureau issued the Technical Circular (DEVB TC(W) No. 3/2023) on Smart Site Safety System (4S) to set out the policy on adoption of 4S to enhance our safety management system, with a view to striving for further excellence on the safety performance in public works contracts. According to the circular, all capital works contracts with estimated contract sum exceeding $30 million shall adopt 4S. As for private works sites, the Government will subsidise contractors to adopt 4S through the Construction Innovation and Technology Fund (CITF), accelerating the drive of smart site safety and uplifting construction safety through the use of innovative technologies.

The Construction Industry Council (CIC) strives to continuously support the industry to adopt 4S with the CITF. CIC will also step up publicity by providing the relevant information and support so as to drive and assist the industry to achieve the goal of “Zero Accident”.

Going into full swing promoting 4S, i-Club has organised a series of events including webinars, exhibitions, and B2B matching programmes in order to help grow the field of 4S applications through knowledge exchange.

Two pitching webinars were held, having invited 16 tech vendors to share all their technologies in 10 main categories of 4S items, including but not limited to centralised management platform, AI safety monitoring system, confined space monitoring system and unsafe acts/ dangerous situation alert etc.  Having attracted 2,111 live attendees, these webinars serve as a centralised channel allow them to have a glimpse of what other technical applications there are in the market. Attendees had the chance to schedule a one-on-one matching meeting with tech vendors for further discussion in potential collaborations. Such in-depth meetings allow practitioners to discuss tailor-made solutions to apply 4S in their project. Feedback was favourable and productive. Click the following links to revisit the webinars.

Nine sessions of 4S roadshow exhibition were successfully held, recording a total of 187 participants. The participants visited the exhibitions in the CITAC exhibition hall for 4S-themed guided tours, featuring aspects such as smart lock system, UWB sensors, VR for safety training, digital tracking system, etc. We are pleased to see bright industry professionals are eager to learn more about how 4S technologies can enhance their worksite safety.

One of our exhibitors Varadise Limited held free consultation sessions with 40 industry stakeholders. Another exhibitor Asia Pacific Industrial Safety Equipment sent representatives to one of our tour sessions to showcase their cutting-edge safety-related technologies. So far, the CITF has approved a total of about HK$150 million to support the industry to leverage safety-related technologies. Going forward, CIC strives to uplift the safety level among the construction industry and continuously support the industry to adopt 4S with the CITF.
